Hastings resident Dennis Dale Jurgena, 84, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Mary Lanning Health Care.

 

Memorial Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 30, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings with Rev. Lance Clay officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at Parkview Cemetery. Viewing will be 1 hour prior to the service at Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Start Over Rover. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.lbvfh.com. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is serving the family. Dennis was born on March 14, 1941, in rural Adams County, Nebraska, to Alferd and Agnes (Koepke) Jurgena. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1960. Following high school, Dennis proudly served his country in the United States Navy from October 1960 to October 1964.

 

On April 2, 1966, Dennis married Mary Lou Ruxton. From this union, two children were born, Jason and Jennifer. Dennis built a long and respected career in the energy industry. He worked as Director of Special Projects for KN Energy – Kinder Morgan, where he was known for his problem-solving skills and dedication, until his retirement.

 

Dennis was a man who loved working with his hands. He enjoyed building and fixing things and took great pride in restoring a 1950 Chevy truck. He also found happiness tending to his lawn, fishing, and challenging himself with Sudoku puzzles.

 

Dennis will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love of family, and appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

 

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Judith & John Marfisi.

Great-Grandchild: Emiliano Fonseca
