Glenvil, NE resident Duane A. Schliep, 91, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Harvard Rest Haven, Harvard, NE.

 

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, west of Glenvil, NE with Pastor Steve Byrne officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery. Viewing will be 3-7 p.m., Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home, with family present from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please give memorials to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund or the Clay County Historical Society in Clay Center, NE. Duane was born on September 13, 1934, in Hastings, Nebraska, to Raymond A. and Berdena M. (Jones) Schliep. He attended two years of grade school at the Navy Ammunition Depot and graduated from Clay Center High School in 1953. After graduation he worked for Carmichael & James Construction and helped build Morrison & Quirk Grain Elevator, now known as CPI and KHAS TV station. On August 14, 1955, he married Lucille Valentine at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, west of Glenvil, NE. Duane helped Delvin Dane with farming near Clay Center, NE until moving to the Spring Ranch area in 1964 to farm and raise cattle on his own. He was in the 295th U.S. Army Ordnance Company of Hastings, NE, an Archer Oil Dealer, and was a member of the Clay County Historical Society.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Stanley.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years Lucille; daughter, Denise (Bob) Powell of Lincoln, NE; son, Dave (Linda) Schliep of McCook, NE; Grandchildren, Michaela Powell, of Rochester, NY; Kaitlyn Powell of Lincoln NE; Spencer Schliep of McCook, NE, Addison Schliep of McCook, NE; Great Grandson, Rafe Julich, of Lincoln, NE; Sister, Carol (Gary) Johnson of Clay Center, NE; Brother, Lyle (Dinah) Schliep of Manhattan, KS; and sister-in-law, Donna Valentine of Glenvil, NE. Numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
