KEARNEY, Neb. — Hunters and conservation supporters from across Nebraska are gathering in Kearney this weekend for the Platte River chapter of Safari Club International’s annual convention.

The two-day event, held Friday and Saturday at the Younes Conference Center South, serves as the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year.

Organizers say the convention supports ethical hunting, wildlife conservation, education and legislative advocacy at both the state and national levels.

Friday night activities include a wild game feed and family-focused events, while Saturday features breakout sessions, a keynote speaker and live and silent auctions.

Auction items include various hunting trips and outdoor experiences donated by outfitters from Nebraska and around the world.

Organizers say funds raised during the convention help support what the organization calls its four pillars: ethical hunting, legislative action, public education, and hunter access and recruitment.

The Platte River chapter is the only Safari Club International chapter in Nebraska and draws members from across the state.
