WAYNE - For the fifth straight year, the Pierce Bluejays are queens of the Mid-State Conference.

The Bluejays handled the Knights in the first set, while battling from an early deficit in set two.

Norfolk Catholic thwarted the sweep by stealing set three, but Pierce manged to leap back ahead late in the fourth set for the 3-1 victory and fifth straight title (25-13, 25-19, 23-25, 25-21).

Nora Herian led the Bluejays with 25 kills and added a pair of blocks. Abbie Cone was another dominant option for Pierce, picking up 16 kills, plus two blocks and three aces.

In the loss, Norfolk Catholic was led by Hayden Brummer's 10 kills and 5 blocks. Ava Wemhoff added 9 kills, while Anslee Watters brought in 7 kills.

In the third place game, it took a five-set battle between Guardian Angels Central Catholic and Battle Creek, but the GACC Bluejays got the job done to take home third place in the Mid-State Conference.

After losing the first and third sets, the Bluejays closed out a tight fourth set and stayed hot into set five.

GACC led 11-1 in the fifth set, but allowed Battle Creek to climb back in the contest. The comeback attempt wasn't enough, as the Bluejays took the five-set victory (19-25, 25-19, 15-25, 25-21, 15-12)

Bailey Gerths led the offense for GACC, tallying 23 kills. Hailey Kreikemeier added 10 kills, while Julie Ridder finished with 8 kills and 5 blocks.

Karley Freudenburg led the Bravettes with 15 kills.
